(Guatemalan caregiver), Marge and daughter, Ann
Meet my friend, Marge. Marge is 86 years old. She was a long term missionary with South America Mission in Peru. She now lives with her daughter, Ann Henriques, CAM missionary here in Guatemala.Marge has a sweet spirit. She forgets from day to day. Each time we visit her we have to re-introduce ourselves to her. She hasn't forgotten her Spanish though. We sit and talk about "the good ol' days" in Peru. Glenn and I mention the SAM missionary names who served with her in Peru - and she smiles widely.
One of our responsibilities as pastoral care givers for the CAM missionaries is that we also visit their aging parents, like Marge.I count it a privilege to have known Marge back when we served with SAM in South America and now here in Guatemala. What an example of a true missionary. Pray for her strength. Pray for her on site care-givers, Bob and Ann Henriques here in Guatemala.

Interesting that I should come across this post in the idea of "small world." We were short-term missionaries with SAM in the mid 1970s, and recently on Facebook someone asked for prayer for Marge Watson. The name sounded familiar to all of us, but we can't place whether we knew her or not (which is how I came to Google her and find this blog). But the funny thing was that once it was mentioned that she lived with her daughter in Guatemala, we realized that I graduated high school with her grandson Tim (and my sister is now married to Tim's best friend, whom I also graduated with).
ReplyDeleteSo while we still haven't quite figured out if we knew Marge or not, we have learned more about her AND discovered a link here in the US in the present time! It IS a small world!
