Gary and Madison and the Batmobile {part 4}

 The Batmobile

I think the groomsmen had something to do with this!
The car was pretty much sealed outside and stuffed with black and yellow balloons inside!

and they drive away
and lived happily ever after!

Gary and Madison's Cake {part 3}

 The cake was elegant.
Note the S and the pearls on the cake!

I was too busy enjoying the moment of the wedding reception, that I forgot to eat a piece of the cake.  But I hear it was delicious.

{note the fountain under the cake!}
I really don't have a good picture of them feeding the cake to each other - but let me say, they had a good time.

 There was even a
Star Wars Groom's Cake too!

Gary and Madison's Reception {part 2}

After the picture taking time, the Blakely's held a beautiful Wedding reception at the church.  There was the traditional "First Dance".  Lovely.  Way to go, Gary and Madison!  Y'all were just beautiful.

Then their was the Father - Daughter dance!
Spectacular!
They danced to "I loved her First".
Look at the two of you dancing that way
Lost in the moment and each others face
So much in love your alone in this place
Like there's nobody else in the world
I was enough for her not long ago
I was her number one
She told me so
And she still means the world to me
Just so you know
So be careful when you hold my girl
Time changes everything
Life must go on
And I'm not gonna stand in your way

But I loved her first and I held her first

And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she'd find you someday
But it still hard to give her away
I loved her first

How could that beautiful women with you

Be the same freckle face kid that I knew
The one that I read all those fairy tales to
And tucked into bed all those nights
And I knew the first time I saw you with her
It was only a matter of time

But I loved her first and I held her first

And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she'd find you someday
But its still hard to give her away
I loved her first

From the first breath she breathed

When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
Someday you might know what I'm going through
When a miracle smiles up at you
I loved her first

Then there was the "Toasting" time to the new
Bride and Groom!

Each of the tables had individual center pieces that were decorated in antique tea cups with cloth flowers adorned with broaches and antique jewelery.

I had Shelly and Jan, make me a special center piece using lace that G'mommy had made 65 years ago.

Besides the pretty tea cups, there were photo stands with pictures of both Gary and Madison and on the back, was a fun description of their memories which they have made together while dating these past 3 years.

There were cute, cute stores like this one about Happiness Flowers.  Madison also made a bouquet of Happiness Flowers to throw to the single gals, while Gary threw the garter.

Gary and Madison's Wedding {part 1}

Gary and Madison were married on Saturday, June 23, in a small stone chapel near her home in Kansas.
The bride was just
B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L

Groom and Father of the Groom
Both good looking men, if I should say so myself.

The wedding ceremony was very personal, lovely and God-honoring.  Shelly and I lit the unity candle.  Dean gave the bride away to Gary.  Both Gary and Madison recited their wedding vows which were spoken from the heart and drizzled with love.
They also took communion and then when the pastor asked for the ring, the best man didn't have it, nor did each groomsman down the line. Finally the very last groomsman produced the ring which was then passed all the way up the line to Gary.  Gary didn't know about this "stunt", but it was a moment of levity which got a laugh.
Both Madison and Gary were very relaxed and enjoyed their wedding ceremony.  Madison's dress was ivory lace and very elegant.  It was very much Madison.  Her colors for the wedding were Victorian.
Madison had an eye for details, down to the small white feathers that were a part of each bouquet and pew isle ends and were even at the reception tables.
The Best Man, Jordan, and Gary
Jordan and Gary grew up together, or at least spent time together when Gary was home on furlough.  They worked on many youth group projects together and weekends at the Berta's house during college.  It was a fun to see how they could pick up their friendship, after years of being separated, either because of Gary growing up in Bolivia or being off to college.

Rehearsal Dinner

Friday night, Gary and Madison's had their Rehearsal
and we hosted the Rehearsal Dinner.

After the Rehearsal, it was off to celebrate at the Rehearsal Dinner....
The night was filled with laughs, smiles and giggles.
Gary, Ellen and baby David

Practicing - cutting the cake- this time it was Key Lime Pie.
It was a big hit at Granite City Food and Brewery

We were blessed to have several close friends drive from Texas and Kansas to help celebrate Gary and Madison's wedding.

Gary and Julie drove up for the wedding.
(We named our Gary after him)
Long time friends, Don and Janie came too!

Evie and Virginia drove up from Hesston, KS.  Virginia and our family go way back from Bolivia days.
Susie and Jeff came too, Parents of Jordan (Gary's Best Man). They have been very influential in Gary's life.

But Saturday was the big day.
Next post will be about the wedding.

Is it OK to Cry?

Today, I have felt my emotions swing from one side to the other.

On the left hand side of my imaginary swing, I'm enjoying holding Baby David in my arms.  He has yet to break out a smile for me.  He is the serious type of baby.  I dream that one day, he will break out into a good belly laugh.  He is close to walking, but not quite yet.  He does scoot along the floor at a pretty good pace.  He'll be walking soon.

On the other end of my emotional swing, is the older generation.  G'mommy asked me AGAIN what she was wearing to the wedding.  She did have her hair done, fingernails painted.  She is forgetful, but she is as beautiful as ever!

Then in the middle of my swing, is my nearly 24 year old son, who is getting married today!  This is the kid who would ride his tricycle round and round the patio walkway in our km 5 house/Santa Cruz.  The one who would play GI Joe with Benjamin out in the large dirt pile in our km 6 house/Santa Cruz.  The one who would break his arm in middle school as he was "car surfing" in the GPBC parking lot.  And now...he is getting married!

Is it ok that I cry?
I'm the happiest
Mom
Grandmother
Daughter
and now... mother-in-law

in the world.

Wedding Weekend

Glenn and I have arrived for the Blakely - Stewart wedding, here in Kansas City.

Uncle Ronnie, Aunt Kelly and Meredith arrived yesterday.
And in a few minutes, we'll be picking up G'mommy and G'daddy at the airport.
Karen, Thomas and G'ma Vi are on I-35 driving through Oklahoma now.

We are excited about several other family members and close friends from GPBC, fellow missionary from Bolivia days and Gary's namesake, will be making their way up to Kansas City this weekend for this special Wedding.

Welcome to the Stewart family, Madison!  We are thrilled to have you become
Mrs. Gary Stewart
on
Saturday, June 23rd.

So, excuse me if I don't blog in the next several days, as we'll be busy with wedding activities.

Guatemalan Barbies

While walking down Santander,  I found this shop which had Guatemalan clothes on the 1960's Barbie Dolls.
