Saturday, Glenn and I visited David and Helen at the hospital in Zone 4. David had back surgery the day before. On Saturday, Helen was celebrating her 81st birthday.
As Glenn and I were stuck in traffic on the periférico, we purchased these roses for Helen (only 3.00 USD) as the guy was walking between the lanes of traffic. To put it in perspective, that is like being on 635 in Dallas and having vendors come to your window selling flowers, cell phone chargers or phone cards. Because it was dark, we didn't notice that one of the roses was a different color. :(

Glenn asked Helen for her to recount a favorite birthday. Then David chimed in and said "You got engaged on your 20th birthday!" Helen then told us how they were both MKs and had met when they were 13 years old living in a boarding school in North Carolina. Helen was an MK from Bolivia and David from Guatemala. They went on to tell us that within a week of their wedding they rode the train from Chicago to Dallas for an interview with the Central America Mission Board and then began attending linguistics courses in Norman, OK.
Oh, the stories these sweet people have. They have such a rich heritage. I'm thankful to know them. I look forward to hearing more of their stories here on the mission field.
