Pharmacy Delivery

Thankful for motorcycle delivery from the local Pharmacy!  It was time to sort my weekly pills and get organized.  We needed some vitamins.  So, Glenn called the Cruz Verde.

Then Glenn took the opportunity to give the "motorcycle guy" the Jesus movie CD.

Goat's Milk

While driving to downtown Guatemala City the other day, we came across this.  A Goat herder walking along the paved sidewalk.

Fresh Goat milk anyone?

After we took this picture a friend of ours documented the milking and purchasing of a very fresh cup of warm goat's milk....for your viewing pleasure.

Friends and Starbucks Mug Shots

We re-connected with Denis and his fiance, Alyssa, at a local mall where they also have a Starbucks Coffee Shop.

We had lots of laughs, especially at the Starbucks cup.
Do you see it?
Don't mask your enthusiasm.

Weekend with Natalie

Over the weekend, we had Natalie stay with us.  She lives out in the boonies.  We "chillaxed" by watching TV, cooking food and talking.  Our favorite was Jeopardy and Please call Saul.  We had lots of laughs.

And for Valentine's Day, she made breakfast for us all.

Notice the heart-shaped pancakes!

Come back and visit us!

Update

We returned back to Guatemala in December and surprisingly, everything in our home was pretty much as we left it.  It was just a little dusty.  Our Toyota van started right up.  The Hyundai Terracan needed a new car battery.  We were in quarantine for 14 days upon arrival and then again another 14 days for precaution as we may have been possibly exposed to Covid 19.

We are thankful that none of our missionaries have come down with Covid 19, yet there are church members, friends, and relatives who have experienced Covid or even death.  Just last week, Ann, 75 years old, had hip replacement surgery.  Sadly we could not go to the hospital to be with her.  Thankfully, she is home and recuperating quite well.  Another missionary started chemo Monday to fight off the lymphoma she is battling with.  And there are others we keep in touch with.  Please pray for these 2 special ladies as they navigate their challenges.

We continue our monthly Zoom meetings with our Guatemala Avant missionary family.  And then I host a "Cornflakes and Chatter" Zoom meeting once a month designed just for the ladies in our group.  Zoom has become a part of my life with Thursday Bible study with ladies in the states and Tuesday Azmera missionary ladies from all over the world plus Friday Zoom meetings with some dear friends from ages past.

We appreciate your prayers for us as we live and serve here in Guatemala.  We count it a privilege to come alongside these faithful servants in many of their job responsibilities, even if it is through Zoom, just like the rest of the world.

Grandma Vi

Glenn’s step-mom, Viola Reimer Stewart passed away on February 1. She is loved and will be missed.

Vi served many years with the Mexico Branch of Wycliffe Bible Translator as a nurse and translator. Her partner was Vola Grist while working on the Otomi translation project. She also contributed to the low German translation of the Bible and worked some in the Canadian office. In 1994 she married Don Stewart and was married to him until his homegoing in 2008.
She will be missed by a brother and sister, nieces and nephews, step-son
Glenn Stewart
and step-daughter
Sarah Stewart Barger
&, 3 step-grandchildren
Ellen Rosenberger
,
Karen Elizabeth Bartz
and
Gary Stewart
along with their spouses, plus 7 step-great-grandchildren.

I couldn't express it better than what Karen and Ellen wrote on their FaceBook walls.  {with their permission}

Viola Stewart, age 90, went home to Heaven on February 1, 2021, the one year birthday of her 7th great-grandchild. Grandma Vi, as we affectionately called her, became my grandma when I was in the fifth grade. I love to tell people that my grandma got married for the first time at 64 years of age and when she married my grandpa she not only gained a husband, but also two children and three grandchildren!
She was a woman of strength, joy, adventure, and active love. My first grandma passed away when I was in second grade and I have limited memories of her. Grandma Vi very graciously and seamlessly filled the role of Grandma for my siblings and I (while at the same time still honoring the memory of my first Grandma, whom she also had known and loved).
The memories that stick out to me of Grandma Vi are: her famous Rice Crispy Treat bars, how she was always on the lookout for a good deal in the Target clearance section (she would get kids’ clothes for practical pennies and donate them), her contagious laugh, her making hats and scarves to send to those in need, and especially her pure and simple love for my Grandpa which included laughing at his corny jokes. I’m thankful she got to be my second grandma and I’m thankful for the love she brought to our family. I'm even more thankful I'll get to see her again when we are both Home together.

Thank you Grandma Vi for being a great grandmother for our 3 kids. You held that job wonderfully. And you will be missed.

You've Got Mail

February 2, 2021

No, I'm not talking about the feel-good movie starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan which we watched during the Christmas holidays.

We received a batch of Christmas cards in February.  A BIG Thank You to folks who spent the energy to mail us your family photos and Christmas greetings.  And Yes, we did get the Christmas mail.  It was just 6-8 weeks later than normal.

Yea for the mail!  We even got our NEW insurance cards and our NEW Texas Driver's licenses with our NEW Texas mailing address.  Feeling pretty blessed!

Because Guatemala's mail service is essentially non-existent, we have been using Glenn's sister's mailbox in Van, Texas to collect our mail.  And because there is not much international travel these days to and from Guatemala City, we have had to become creative in sending and receiving mail.
