Chivoc Village

On Sunday, Glenn and I drove Helen and Elisa out to Natalie's house for lunch and then on to the 3pm church worship service in her village of Chivoc.

Chivoc is about
38 kilometers one-way
or 23 miles one-way
or 1 1/2 hour driving time
Yes, very winding roads with switch-backs!

Natalie, age 23, has been living and teaching in this area for over a year now and she desperately wanted Helen, age 90 and half, to make a personal visit to her village.

Along with the pastor's wife, Natalie had prepared a delicious lunch for us. Of course we had to have tortillas to make the meal complete!

After lunch and a short visit at her humble residence, complete with a potty stop, we headed to Natalie's church.  Over the back hills and into the village we drove on what would have been a 4 wheel drive journey a few years ago before the cement road was put in.

The Pastor expressed his appreciation for us bringing Helen for the worship service.  Glenn, Helen and even Elisa spoke briefly.

We used WAZE to find our way, back over the mountain ridges, along a 2 lane road to Guatemala City.  When came around one corner and topped a ridge, we finally had a great view of the city.  Amazing.
38 more kilometers back to the city and 1 1/2 hours we were back into the city!

Matthew 28:19-20
"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
