The Winner Is

 Winner in the Camino Global photo contest.

This was the photo I submitted to the judges for the Camino Global photo contest for the category of "Texture" for which I won a 50 dollar gift certificate.

Wednesday, during the Convocation meetings, the announcements were made in the different category's for the Photo contest.  

This photo was taken in 2009 with Chad and Kelly Alexander from FBCLC.  We had taken them on a ministry trip to Panajachel, Sololá, Xela and then down to the coast to Monterrico.  I had looked up at the thatched roof and snapped a quick photo.

MK from the Past

 Recently, we had a short weekend visit with Marilyn and her adult kids.  Marilyn and Glenn were MKs together in Mexico.

Since they love coffee, we introduced them to Caroline's coffee, Godoy's.  It was a big hit.  We also visited the relief map, SETECA, the city dump and Antigua.

They now have connected up with their mission team from Allen, TX and will be doing mission work for the coming week here in the country.

Future Michael Phelps

 

 It wouldn't be a Nicaraguan visit, if we didn't go to the pool.

David loves the pool, bath time and just water in general.  He is a happy camper when he is in the water.  I wonder if he'll be the next great swimmer like Michael Phelps?

One Year Old David Tries to Walk

We hit the jack pot in July at a Garage Sale in Denver.  It included 2 large boxes of legos.  David loved the BIG blocks.

We also found a Bob the Builder "tent" for David to play in.

David helped us go grocery shopping.

Sweet David woke up each morning with his usual "uhhh....uhhh...uhhh" call to get our attention.  So, like any normal grandmother, I would get up, hug the sweet guy, change his diaper, and take him into see GrandDad.  What a way to start the day off.

David still prefers crawling.  Any day now, he should be walking.  I did video a few steps when David didn't even realize he was walking.

On the Road and In the Air

While traveling back through Kansas on our way to Texas and eventually back to Guatemala, we stopped and had a quick visit with Virginia and her sister Evie.  Glenn was intrigued with Evie's bicycle.

This unique bike was built by Evie's brother.  The bike is a mixture of different parts of different types of bikes.  The seat of this bike is from a cockpit of an airplane.

We also stopped to see Al (former president of CAM International).  And we visited with some GPBC team members. 

To end our trip, we had a pleasant surprise visit with Beverly at the Miami airport.  Bev is a dear friend from our Bolivia days.  It was great to have a short 1 hour visit with her before our plane left.  God is good.

At Last A Medal For Guatemala

60 years after their first participation, Guatemala finally wins a medal in the Olympics.

Saturday, we were watching channel 13, a local station here in Guatemala.  You can get more of a variety of sports including table tennis, gymnastics, swimming, etc.  Then we realized there was a Guatemalan in the "fast walk" race, so tuned in closer.  It was neat to watch History in the making.  Guatemala has never won a medal.  They only have 19 appearing in the London Olympic. Erick Barrondo got a silver medal.

At the time of his win, horns were honking and fireworks were exploding throughout the city and country.

Congratulations to Erick and to the country of Guatemala.

EMT to the Rescue

It had been 2 years since Glenn and I were casually walking the trail between Bear Lake and Bierstadt Lake back on the early crisp Autumn Day.  That was when I fell and broke my ankle.  I knew instantly that I couldn't put any weight on it.  I scooted off to the side of the trail and we called 911.  Miraculously, there was a cell phone signal and the phone connected to the dispatcher who then transferred us to the National Park Service.

Since we were in Estes Park again, I wanted to personally thank these guys.  Glenn and I took Thursday afternoon to drive into the Park again and present the photo to the head Ranger.  Only 1 guy was still working there.  However, he was not there as he was out on yet another "rescue mission".

Since Bill was out, I left a bag of coffee and a thank you note for him.  I had my picture taken with the current park ranger.

Again, I'm thankful for the the hours it took for the guys to find us, and "cart me off the mountain".

Thanks for your visit and the gift of coffee. I’m sorry to have missed you and Glenn…, wouldn’t ya know…, I was out on yet another mission when you stopped by.

Of the 4 of us in the photo, I am the only one still working at RMNP. 

Glad to see you up and about again. Great photos of your “hardware” posted on your blog. 18 years ago I had a similar experience, but they were able to remove the two screws holding my bones together after 10 weeks in a cast. Still…, the road to walking without crutches, cane, limp or pain is long and, at times.., uncertain.

10 Steps to a perfect Bike Ride

Step 1.  Drive up to 12,000 feet pass. 

 Step 2.  Cross over the Continental Divide.

Step 3.  Take in the beautiful Scenery.

Step 4.  Watch Glenn unload my bicycle.

Step 5.  Take a picture

Step 8.  Stop and enjoy the scenery

On our travels back to Texas, Glenn dropped me off at the top of the mountain, and I rode about 10 miles downhill towards Grand Lake.  Beautiful!  Sure glad we had our bikes with us while we were in Colorado.

Snapshots of Convocation

It was great to spend the week with former SAM missionaries, Dean and Linda Self and their family, Jordan and Hannah; both are now Camino Global missionaries.  Dean and Linda serve in Hispanic USA while Jordan and Hannah serve with us in Guatemala.

We had our 3 bicycles with us, plus the "child trailer" to pull behind the bicycle.  Glenn gave numerous rides for the little mks.

 Tarwater family {minus 1 kid and the Daddy}.  This family is heading to Guatemala after language study.

The scenery was spectacular.  The weather was perfect with cool nights and warm days.  During each day, we had meetings for the morning sessions and the afternoons and evenings were completely FREE.  Glenn and I took advantage of this time by going on bike rides and visiting with co-workers.  We drove into Estes Park one afternoon; took naps and enjoyed a slower pace of life.  I got caught up on my Bible reading and some cross stitch.

Although I'm still "posting" of Colorado, we are back in Central America.
