Foote Steps

We visited with Danny and Daphne in their Rock House in Santiago. Note the kids hanging out the window!

We had traditional meal of beans and rice along with tortillas made by hand. We joke that Daphne is trying her hardest to learn how to make the tortillas just like the Tsutujil ladies do in their village.

My Mom is the GREATEST!

Happy Mother's Day. To the best mom in the world. Mom, when I went through my archieves of pictures to find a good one of you, I could not find a single picture of just you. You are always with family and friends. You are surrounded my those who love you and are dear to you.

Mom would always take good care of me as a kid. She would make sure I would get to school on time. She would make my lunches, wash my clothes and even help me with study & work on school projects. All my friends knew my mom as she would volunteer to be Room Mother or even drive on field trips. She was involved in every aspect of my growing up. Thank you mom.

While I was in college she would faithfully write me a letter once a week. Going to my college post office box and receiving a detailed letter from my mom was the highlight of my day! All my friends knew my mom because she was a part of their lives too. Even to this day, mom will run into old friends of mine at the grocery store and catch up on the latest.

Even as I became I mom, she would help me out. She loved me by "potty training" each of our 3 kids! Way to go mom! You are the best. When I do return home, she fixes my favorite meals such as chicken fried steak or pork chop and potato casserole. I can't forget about my strawberry shortcake or Dr. Pepper jello salad! Mom is the best cook in the world! She is famous for her mince meat pie, banana nut bread, peanut brittle and peach preserves.
Thank you mom for being the BEST mom in the world!

Love,
Judy

Tsutujil Bible

Danny presents Kelly and Chad with the Tsutujil New Testament. Danny has a vision of working with the Tsutujil brothers and translate the Old Testament into their own dialect

Breakfast at Casa Del Mundo

We took a boat ride over to a private resort/hotel/hostel on our way to the village of Santiago. This resort is literally smack on the side of a cliff. Yes, there are lots of steps. The view is fantastic, overlooking Lake Atitlán with the 3 volcanoes in the back ground. There are about 10 private and/or shared rooms. The decor at Casa Del Mundo is very authentic. It is a very peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. The landscaping is spectatular.

I would recommend the french toast breakfast topped off with a special banana, strawberry and pineapple smoothie. Its a "must".

Sunset Cafe & Zilch (Farcle)

What more can you ask for? A beautiful sunset over Lake Atitlán rounded off with a good game of Zilch. Yes, I won!

PS I had another post to go out today, but I can't find it. Oh well.

All Dressed Up

The Cachiquel lady dressed Kelly up in the traditional huipil and skirt. The skirt is just a wrap around with the belt tied tightly around the waist. The hair is pulled back with the foot long material wrapped around the pony tail and twisted around in the front. Quite unique.

Even Chad got into the act.

Judy
PS I wanted to post this photo several days ago, however Chad and Kelly wore this outfit to church yesterday and I wanted their "dress" to be a surprise. It got lots of attention, specially a skirt on a guy.

Happy Birthday Stephen

Stephen is 9 years old today. Stephen loves his cousin Gary. He loves to play with Legos. Stephen is very slow to speak because he wants to say the correct thing. His mind is always processing stuff. He loves his grandparents. Stephen is a good student. He is very patient. He likes to read.

Stephen had a birthday party over the weekend. It was a lego party. Imagine the whole living room floor filled with legos (some donated by his cousin Gary)!

Happy Birthday Stephen. Tell your class hello for me.

Recently, we housed the Foote family along with the grandparents who had come down for a quick 1 week visit. I tell you Pat and Ann Carolyn know more people! We made several connections. Come back and visit us again.

Local Panaderia in Panajachel

I am always looking for new locations. On our trip to Panajachel, we took the afternoon and drove to San Antonio Palopó along with Wray. On our return trip, she took us to this bread store just around the corner from Mike's coffee shop. Wow, the bread smelled so delicious. And then across the street was another bakery.

Today is May Day. Most of Latin America celebrates today as Labor Day. Schools are out and families are gathering together for your traditional holiday celebration. Happy May 1st!

Construction

For those following the new construction project at LBN, here is the latest photo taken just a few days ago. I think they're hoping to pour the cement for the roof, hopefully before the rainy season starts.

Looking the other direction.

Internship

Glenn and I are taking a 3 hour internship class through Moody. What that means is that we are developing some communication tools and implementing them here in Guatemala.
Here Glenn is showing our supervisor, Elisa, some "tricks of the trade".

We have enjoyed putting together some practical stuff, developing a grouping for CAM Guatemala members on Facebook and some other useful tools.

Now - 3 hours down and about 10 more college credit hours to finish our degree with MBI.

Pottery Barn

While visiting the small village of San Antonio Palopó, we stopped at the local "Pottery Barn". Not really. However, their products are quite unique.

Chad and Kelly purchased a cross. Beautiful.

Balancing Act

As we were driving to the village of Santa Catarina Palopó, I caught a picture of this girl carrying her goods on her head.

Lake Atitlán

During the past 2 days, we have been visiting around Lake Atitlán with Chad and Kelly. The first day, we drove through Patzún and on into Panajachel. It was so cloudy and smokey, that you couldn't see the volcanoes on the other side of the lake, you could only barely see the water. Our second day, the sun broke through and we had a beautiful view 0f Volcan Santiago and Volcan Toliman.
Breathtaking.
I just love this rose.

Today we're driving to visit other missionaries, having breakfast with the Cokers and then on to visit the Scotts in Quetzaltenango (Xela). I'll be posting more photos later of our short visit out to the Lake area.

Pops Ice Cream

Think of it as the "Baskin and Robbins" of Guatemala. We had CAM missionary Tim Blycker from Mexico here several nights ago.

While we were eating the ice cream, waiting for Steve to bring the key to the "club", because we left it at our house, we felt a little tremor. The doors and table swayed just a little bit. It didn't last but just 15 seconds.

2009 CAM Guatemala Conference

Over the past weekend, we participated in the annual Fellowship Conference here in Guatemala. Roger Raymer was our guest speaker. Music was provided by different missionaries. And we had excellent youth workers, Chad and Kelly from First Baptist Liberty City along with Mark and Kristin from First Baptist Lake Jackson. Thank you so much for your help!
