Cowboy Church

No, not as in "Dallas Cowboys Church", but a Cowboy Church. I love this church. I love the music. I love the people. Glenn was decked out in his brown suede jacket, and black hat. Only lacking was his cowboy boots. He shared with the children during the worship service. We handed out quetzal bills for them to use as book marks and as a reminder to pray for the children of Guatemala. What a fun loving and God honoring church.

Gary's Room

I was very impressed with Gary's room. He has his bed up on top, and then 2 computer monitors hanging down. I guess that is for him to study better. His room was very neat. Way to go, Gary. He showed us some of his photography work.

This past weekend, Glenn and I helped with the JBU Family Weekend. We have been a part of the PAC (Parent Association Council) team. We love it. We're able to greet and meet the parents that are returning to visit their students. Our responsibilities included being a judge for the Talent Show, Glenn driving the golf cart to take folks to President Pollard's house, or working the registration table. Glenn did get to play several rounds of racquetball with Gary.

Michelle's class

Just like last year when I spoke to Stephen's class, it was my turn to speak about missions and Guatemala to Michelle's 1st grade class. Great bunch of kids. Everyone got a bookmark, and little Guatemalan magnets.

Potato Soup

Looking at 2 separate Potato Soup recipes, I made my own version. Pretty good, to say the least.


My two favorite cookbooks in the world. I would not have survived 15 years in Bolivia, if I didn't rely on these 2 cookbooks. You can cook from scratch and make nearly anything.

• 6 thick slices bacon
• 1 1/2 teaspoons olive oil
• 1/2 cup chopped onion
• 1/2 cup chopped carrots
• 1 stalk celery, chopped
• 4 cups low fat, low sodium chicken broth
• 4 cups cubed potatoes
• 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
• 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
• 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

Final result. I combined 2 recipes

The other day we were in Antigua, a quaint touristy town just 45 minutes from our home, and I saw the strangest thing. It looked like a wooden dresser with legs that was walking.

Passport, Photo and a Journey

In December when Gary was home for the holidays, we started the process of renewing his "nearly expired" passport. Glenn & Gary checked with the embassy and were told just come on down and fill out the paperwork. We had already gotten Gary's passport picture taken at Walgreens earlier. So we were ready to go, so we thought....

Gary and Glenn learned they needed an appointment and the first appointment wasn't available until mid January (long after Gary would be back at JBU). So some phone calls were made and we got an appointment for December 29. Perfect. It just takes 5 - 8 working days to process it. One week later we journeyed down to the embassy to get his new passport, only to find out there was a flaw in the printing and the embassy would need to re-apply for another one.

My, my, my. Gary was flying back to the states the next day. This time he was issued a new passport (only good for a year) that same day. However, he didn't have another set of photos, so Glenn and Gary walked outside the building, around the corner to a small photo shop and got his "mug" shot. In total, Gary and Glenn made 5 trips downtown to get Gary's passport. I'm glad that ordeal is over with...until next year.

Picasa Lessons

Today in Panajachel, Caroline was showing me the wonders of Picasa3. Oh no, I think I like this program. Caroline has been very helpful to show me the tools to edit the photos. So, hopefully in blogs to come, my photos will be better quality. Note the new photo on my Title to my Blog!

We introduced Katie to Sudoku. David loves playing sudoku too.

The Foote family took the boat over from Santiago to join us for lunch. At the same time, we contacted the Josephs and Coolbaugh family via Skype to make plans for their upcoming ministry trip to Guatemala.
